The Kindness Challenge

By: Gloria Marie

the kindness challenge, 30 day kindness challenge

If you have any tough relationships, this is the book for you! The Kindness Challenge by Shaunti Feldhahn gives practical tools and advice that is substantiated by her research. She reveals three simple steps to make any relationship better: nix the negatives, practice praise and carry out kindness.

For each of these three steps, she breaks them down into smaller steps that you can put into practice immediately. For example, to carry out kindness, she suggests: perform small acts of service, give or share something precious to you, and be fully present and enter their world.

The book is filled with examples from her research with real life stories.  I found myself shaking my head, thinking, yes, I can relate to that and I have had that happen in my life. The difference is that now, her book gave me solutions to some difficult relationship issues.

The book is written in three parts. Part One shows why kindness, above all other character traits is important for thriving in life, work and relationships. Part Two defines the three elements of kindness and the 30-Day Kindness Challenge so you can identify your own individual patterns of kindness. Part Three you’ll find specific tools to help put kindness into practice, in the form of daily tips.

The 30-Day Kindness Challenge can easily be instituted into your life.  All you need is the commitment and Shaunti Feldhahn provides the rest.  Give it a try!

I received this book from Blogging for Books in order to write this review.

Holidays are Over, Now What?

By: Gloria Marie

holiday are over now what, new years resolutions, single happy strong

Holidays are over, now what? We are entering the second week of the new year. How are those New Year Resolutions going? Do you feel stuck? Restless? Unhappy? That is a normal feeling after the holidays. It is sort of a letdown because we are back to the same old routines. Do any of these sound familiar?

I am going to meditate every day. Instead, I need more sleep.
I am going to start a diet and lose 10 pounds. Instead, maybe I will wait until February.
I am going to work out every day. Instead, it is so hard fitting in time to go to the gym.
I am going to spend less time on social media. Instead, I just need to check in a few minutes.
I am going to look for a new job. Instead, it is such a hassle, I might as well stay where I am.

Maybe your resolutions were too aggressive or too broad. All the examples I gave above are too broad. They are written for failure. It is easier to be more gentle with yourself and break up these goals into smaller steps. Small success can translate into larger accomplishments. Smaller steps will also keep you motivated to keep going.

I am going to meditate every day. Instead, twice a week, I will meditate for five minutes either in the morning or in the evening.

I am going to start a diet and lose 10 pounds. Instead, I will have a protein shake every morning and not eat after 8:00 pm. I hope to lose 3 pounds in the next month.

I am going to work out every day. Instead, I will go to the gym or walk for 30 minutes twice a week.

I am going to spend less time on social media. Instead, I will check my social media accounts one time a day for less than 15 minutes.

I am going to look for a new job. Instead, I am going to redo my resume and apply for a minimum of 5 jobs a week.

These are just examples. You can tailor them to fit your needs. The important point is that you write your resolutions in objective terms that can be measured. That is how you will be motivated to continue. If you did not write any resolutions, this can also be applied to any parts of your life you would like to see change.

You can do whatever you put your mind to. Break your goals into smaller steps. I know you can do it! Make 2017 a year you tackle some parts of your life that you would like to change.

A Year of New Beginnings

By: Gloria Marie

a year of new beginnings, happy new year, happy new you, divorce the divorce, single happy strong

Happy New Year! In numerology, 2016 was a nine year. A nine year is a year of endings and completions. 2017 is a one year. A year of new beginnings. Are you ready for some new beginnings? I feel that 2016 was a difficult year for a lot of people. It is tough to watch friends or family members suffer through adversity. In my own experience, it brought many endings and many challenges. But, though challenges, we grow stronger and maybe some of those challenges prepared us for the new year and new beginnings.

What do you want to bring into the new year and what do you want to leave behind? This is a question that you may want to spend some time really thinking about this holiday. Try the following four steps to clarify your intentions and to feel gratitude for 2016.

1. Today, get out your journal and spend some time reviewing 2016. Sit in a quiet spot and reflect on the past year without judgment. Try answering some of these questions;
a. What was the most significant thing that happened in your life in 2016?
b. List one joy and one sorrow that you experienced this year.
c. What is the greatest thing you learned this year?
d. What are you most thankful for this year?
2. Next, list what you want to leave behind in 2016. What is getting in the way of living the life you want? If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
3. Light a candle and say a prayer of gratitude for 2016. Let a feeling of gratitude permeate your whole being. Now, leave 2016 behind, except for the lessons you learned.
4. Then, make a list of what you would like to manifest in 2017. Be very clear with your intentions. Write them in a positive form and believe the Universe will help you. God wants us to live happy, abundant lives. Commit to yourself that this year you will listen to your inner guidance and follow it. At the top of your list write, “This or something better will manifest in 2017!” Say that out loud and believe it in your soul. Whenever doubt or fear sets in, go back to your intentions.

Thank you for allowing me into your lives. I wish you much peace and happiness in the New Year! Commit to make it your best.

Affirmation for the New Year

Wishing You Peace and Love

By: Gloria Marie

peace and love, peace and joy, christmas, single happy strong

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could keep the holiday feelings and sentiments alive all year? I do believe it is possible. How wonderful it would be, to be filled with joy and peace all year? Let’s take this a step further and wouldn’t it be wonderful if all beings were filled with love and peace all year? This joy and peace begins with you. As I spend time with my family during the holidays, I am going to focus on my feelings of love and try to keep that thread throughout the year. The Discourse on Good Will is one of my favorite passages. Wishing you peace and love during this magical time of year.

Discourse on Good Will

May all beings be filled with joy and peace.
May all beings everywhere,
The strong and the weak,
The great and the small,
The mean and the powerful,
The short and the long.
The subtle and the gross:

May all beings everywhere,
Seen and unseen,
Dwelling far or nearby,
Being or waiting to become:
May all be filled with lasting joy.

Let no one deceive another,
Let no one anywhere despise another,
Let no one out of anger or resentment
Wish suffering on anyone at all.

Just as a mother with her own life
Protects her child, her only child, from harm,
So within yourself let grow
A boundless love for all creatures.

Let your love flow outward through the universe,
To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity.

Then, as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind;
Your life will bring heaven to earth.

-The Sutta Nipata

May you be filled with joy, peace and love during this magical time of year.

5 Ways to Survive the Holiday Season

By: Gloria Marie

survive the holiday season, stress, single happy strong

There are so many commitments and expectations this time of year, in addition to your normal, daily responsibilities. It is easy to get caught up in the “should” instead of what you would really like to do. When I get caught up in the should, I find that I miss the very essence of the holiday season. Try these 5 ways to survive the holiday season, I know I am going to put them into practice. You can survive and actually enjoy the season.

1. Go with the Flow – When the unexpected happens or your plans go awry, do not resist what is happening, go with the flow. It is probably out of your control anyway, so, why stress. I had a friend call me last week on her way to the airport. The traffic was horrendous and she was afraid she was going to miss her flight. Instead of stressing, she knew there was nothing she could do about it, she took a deep breath and surrendered the need to control the outcome. Our initial instinct would be to have our minds race with all possible scenarios, usually negative ones. Instead, just go with the flow. She ended up making the flight!
2. Check Off One Item on Your to Do List – If you look over that list, there is probably one item you can remove. Usually that item is at the bottom of the list anyway. Ask yourself, if it is important to get it done or is it just kind of nice to get it done?
3. Exercise – Any type of exercise, even a brisk walk will relieve stress and help clear your mind at the same time. When I am busy, it is very easy for me to find every excuse in the world to not exercise, when that is probably the one thing that would be the most beneficial.
4. Do Something Special for Someone – This helps to get the emphasis off “YOU!” It could be a simple as making a phone call to someone you have not talked to. Or sending an unexpected gift or card to someone.
5. Do Something Special for Yourself – Take time to nurture yourself in whatever way that is. Celebrate yourself at this special time of year. You deserve it.

Change and Transformation

By: Gloria Marie

Butterfly

With the year coming to an end, it is a good time to review your life this past year. There were probably some great moments and some disappointments. Maybe looking back, the year was just not what you expected or had hoped for. The year 2016 had quite a few powerful eclipses and is a year of endings. In numerology, it is a “nine” year, a year of endings. But, of course next year is a “one” year, a year of beginnings. I love the power of the Butterfly to represent change and transformation.

Did you have changes the past several months? Did some people eclipse out of your life?
Did you leave a job or are you thinking about changing careers? Or maybe are you considering moving? In a “nine” year, you may be thinking about a major change in your life. Well, new beginnings are coming in 2017.

A butterfly represents transformation. It has four cycles in its life. If we look closely at the stages, it can provide teaching for us. The “Medicine Card” deck, by Jamie Sams and David Carson, refers to the following four stages:
1. Is this the egg stage: Is it just a thought or idea?
2. Is this the larva stage: Do I need to make a decision?
3. Is this the cocoon stage: Am I developing and doing something to make my idea a reality?
4. Is this the birth stage: Am I sharing my completed idea?

By asking yourself these questions, you will discover the stage you were at in 2016. Many of us were probably at the cocoon stage and are now ready to give birth and FLY! Have the courage to fly and act, but, also remain flexible as to how God will manifest your dreams and transform your life.

God always finds a way to help those whose hearts reach out to Him.

Meditate to Give and Receive Love

By: Gloria Marie

This simple meditation is a great way to open your heart chakra and feel the energy of giving and receiving love. This meditation is great to do if you want to attract a relationship into your life. Of course, it is not only designed for single or divorced women. If you feel negative energy around you or if you are feeling depressed or upset, try this meditation to change the negative energy to a feeling of love and warmth. It only takes a few minutes. Ready to meditate to give and receive love? Read the instructions a couple of times and try to do it from memory.

Find a quiet space to sit. A place that you will not be interrupted or distracted. Close your eyes and take a few deep breathes. Continue taking breathes until you feel relaxed. Try to let go of any worries or thoughts. Concentrate on the breaths going in and out of your body. Feel grateful for the air that you are breathing. When you feel relaxed, imagine a beautiful pink light surrounding your heart area. Imagine this beautiful pink light growing larger and larger with each breath. It keeps growing until it surrounds your entire body. Feel that this beautiful light is surrounding you with love. Now imagine there is someone sitting in front of you. This could be someone you know: your husband, your son, or your daughter. Or if you want to attract a relationship, this could be your future partner. You extend the beautiful pink light to them and surround them with your light and love. Fell the love extending from your heart to theirs. Now imagine they are sending you lots of love and pink light. You are allowing your heart to open to receive the love. Continue sending and receiving love for a few more minutes. Slowly open your eyes. Thank the Universe for filling your life with love and joy.

Let Me Walk in Beauty

By: Gloria Marie

Happy Thanksgiving! This is a favorite prayer of mine and perfect for Thanksgiving.

Let Me Walk in Beauty

-Chief Yellow Lark

O Great Spirit,

Whose voice I hear in the winds

And whose breath gives life to all the world,

Hear me.

I am small and weak.

I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty

And let my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the thing you have made

And my ears grow sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the things

You have taught my people.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden

In every leaf and rock.

I seek strength not to be greater than my brother or sister

But to fight my greatest enemy, myself.

Make me always ready

To come to you with clean hands and straight eyes

So when life fades as the fading sunset

My spirit may come to you without shame.

What Do You Believe?

By: Gloria Marie

single happy strong, gloria pierson, course in miracles

What do you believe? Do you believe that life is difficult? That happiness is not within your reach? That poverty and suffering are normal? If those are your beliefs, then that is exactly what your life will be like. We are meant to have lives filled with peace, love and abundance. That is what God wants for us. If we are not living our lives in this way, we have gotten off track.

Living in the light is living with God. Light gives us strength and confidence to follow our dreams. Darkness only increases our weakness. We have two spheres of our mind: the bodily mind and the spirit mind. The bodily mind or ego is that constant chatter in our head. “You are not enough: not good enough, not bright enough, not pretty enough.” All that is chatter and that chatter puts us off track from being in the light.

When we live in the light miracles occur. That is when we are aligned with our spirit mind and God. Our spirit mind wants us to look past appearances and keep our steady gaze on our dreams. We are not our body. Faith keeps us focused on the life we want and deserve.

Of course, when we live in the light, we will not be problem free. That is simply not the case, but, the spaces and recovery time between the problems will grow less because of our faith.

How do we stay in the light? By prayer and spending time in quiet leaving our weakness behind. A Course in Miracles says, “Faith goes to what you want, and you instruct your mind accordingly.” Believe in yourself, believe in the light, believe in happiness and that is what you will bring into your life.

God is the Presence, Love, and Power in you that conquers all.

Be the Light

By: Gloria Marie

Be the Light, I AM, Gloria Pierson, single happy strong

The recent presidential election has divided the United States. On both sides, there is a lot of anger, negativity, and resentment. It was a negative campaign and that negativity is surrounding all of us. We have a new president and that we cannot change. What we can change is our energy. We can be the light instead of the dark.

Have you noticed feeling tired? Irritated? Difficulty getting started on tasks and difficulty to complete them? Or maybe some of your relationships are changing? This is all a result of the negative energy surrounding this election. Whether you are aware of it or not, it has effected all of us.

Our energy can be like a mirror to reflect the negativity and anger OR our energy can be a shield to send out love and light. We have a choice. You have a choice. Be the answer to spread love and light instead of continuing the darkness. If you choose to be the light, you are needed now more than ever. This is important work.

Rise above the negativity. Believe in Divine order and protection and that is what will expand. Refrain from negative conversations and negative media. Stay in the light.

When your mind begins to intellectualize, think of God. The God that created you, loves you and guides you. This is your defense in conflict and in peace. Just say the word “God” or “Love.” That will help you remain in the light.

Spend a few minutes in silence imagining God’s beautiful white, dazzling light surrounding you.

I have also found this short prayer wonderful. Let us all say it daily.

Dear God, In the Name of the “Mighty I AM Presence,” we call your Light and Love into the White House, into the National Capital, into the State in the Union, into the Hearts and minds of all politicians to produce Perfection NOW; and bring everything into Light’s Victory of Divine Love. Amen

Be the Light!  I feel this is an important message and I hope you would consider sharing it with friends and on Social Media.
