This adorable book is filled with inspiring messages and beautiful, uplifting illustrations. It is the perfect book to give someone that you want to comfort, support or encourage. The messages are timeless and can be read over and over. Some of the topics include: happiness, growth, karma, forgiveness and calm. “Open when: Letters to lift your spirit” is also a great gift to give to yourself and keep it on your desk. Sometimes we need to think more positively, but, we get stuck in old habits and ways of thinking. This book will help you become unstuck with the uplifting passages. The book is arranged with envelopes that you unfold in an origami-like way to find the inspirational reading. There are twelve different envelopes to explore. The author, Karen Salmansohn, is considered a happiness expert and her newest book will have you find happiness and support. This will be my go-to gift book. It is a treasure.
One of my favorite messages:

Miracles are Seen in Light

Miracles are seen in light. This statement is from “A Course in Miracles.” Miracles can and do occur in our life. But, we must remain in God’s light to experience the miracles.

What causes us to be in darkness? When we are filled with fear, when we are weak, and when we are doubtful, that is when we are in darkness. When we are in darkness, we are not putting our faith in God and any miracles will remain unseen. In darkness, we are putting our faith in our problems and in our fears, instead of in God.

We have the power to be strong, have faith and go to what we want. We have the power to instruct our mind and be in God’s light. That is when we walk and live in the light. God’s strength and love can become yours. Become a flashlight and remove the darkness.

We can remain in the light by quieting our minds every day. Spending at least ten minutes every day in meditation or prayer will allow you to leave your weakness behind. It will allow you to get in touch with your Inner Self that is perfectly created by God. By setting aside some quiet time, you will for a few moments, disconnect from the physical world and enter the realm where miracles occur.

Meditation will also allow you to undo any negative thoughts you may have about yourself.

I am not weak, but strong.
I am no helpless, but all powerful.
I am not limited, but unlimited.
I am not doubtful, but certain.
I cannot see in darkness, but in light.

Living in light is where we are meant to live and thrive. Turn on your flashlight and remove any darkness, that is when miracles will occur. Keep track of your miracles, write them in a journal. It will serve to remind you of God’s strength and love.

Walking in Balance

Every Sunday the Single, Happy, and Strong Blog will have an exercise for you to do.  This is a wonderful way to start a new week; to reflect, grow, and begin a shift in your life.  This week we are going to discover some tools that Native Americans use to “walk in balance”.

Native Americans believe in “walking in balance”.  They try to balance their mind, body and spirit.  They have very rich traditions that are handed down from their elders. Being in silence or meditating is a part of their tradition.  Today, I will describe some of their techniques.  Think about your day: Do you balance your mind, body, and spirit? Or do you get caught up with work and day to day routines?  Do you carve out some time to sit in silence?

Meditation

Sit outside and watch the sun come up. Say thanks for the things you are grateful for-things below the ground, on the ground, above the ground.  Progress from the material to the spiritual.  Say a prayer similar to the one written below.

At the end of the day, watch the sun drop.  Open yourself up and say prayers of thanksgiving.  Watch nature in silence.

Spiritual Circle

After meditation or after sitting in silence, practice visualizing a spiritual circle around yourself. This process keeps your energy strong and keeps your aura (your energy field) close around you. This is an area around you, like your own residence. You may allow certain people to enter this spiritual circle, but, the more you practice this, the stronger your field becomes.

Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds and whose breath gives life to the whole world, hearken!

I come before you as one of your many children. See, I am small and weak; I need your strength and wisdom.

Permit me to walk in beauty. May my heart treat with respect the things which you have created, may my ears hear your voice!

Make me wise that I may understand the things which you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I long for strength, not in order that I may overcome my brother, but, to fight my greatest enemy, myself.

Make me ever ready to come to you with pure hands and straight eyes, so that my spirit, when life disappears like the setting sun, may stand unashamed before you.

Believe and Succeed in 30 Days

 Is there something in your life that you wish you could change? One year from now, what do you want your life to look like?  Using goal setting, commitment and controlling your thoughts, you can start achieving what you want.  I challenge you to try this experiment for the next 30 days.  See what happens, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

 1. Write on an index card what you want more than anything else to create the life you desire. Spend time in silence to really give this some thought. It could be more money, a partner, a new job, a new home, or a family.  While in silence, listen to your heart’s desires. Once you decided what you want, create a single goal that is clearly stated.  Write this on the card.

2. Do not share this goal with anyone. Keep it to yourself.

3. Read it out loud every morning and before going to bed at night. Say it with faith.  Envision yourself as if you already achieved the goal. Believe in the goal and in yourself.

4. Stop any negative thoughts or fears immediately.  When a fearful or negative thought about achieving your goal enters you mind, replace it with a positive affirmation or a mental picture of you achieving your goal.  Some positive affirmations may be: I release all fears and doubts. I believe in myself. I can and will achieve my goal.

5. Be grateful for all the abundance you already have.

6. Release the “how” of how to achieve it.  The answers will come in time from a force much greater than you.

7. Do this for 30 days.

 This is a simple experiment.  It does not cost you anything and is easy to fit into a busy schedule.  However, it is not easy to release fears and negative thinking. Be vigilant and do not give up!  Stay inspired and continue to passionately believe in yourself.
