3 Steps for Dealing with Holiday Stress

We are in the wonderful holiday season. But, this wonderful season can get very hectic. Besides work and keeping our daily schedule there are parties, events and possibly visiting relatives. With a little preparation and awareness, you can remain calm and enjoy every minute. Try these 3 steps for dealing with holiday stress.

The key is remembering that you are the captain of the ship. How you choose to react to any situation is up to you. This season, try not to be reactive to people or situations. Stay in control.

1. Go to the silent core of your being. By going in silence, you stay in touch with your inner being, and by being in touch with it, you will find strength. This strength can sustain you throughout this season. There are many ways to go into silence. You can meditate. Meditating for just 5 minutes in the morning will produce great results. You can do deep breathing exercises, listen to soothing music, or walk in nature. It does not matter what method you use; the important point is to get in touch daily with your inner core

2. Stay away from the drama of others. With holiday parties and getting together with friends, it may be easy to get pulled in other people’s drama. Unless you are invited to become a part of the drama, and you choose to get involved- stay away. Let others live their lives, and you live yours. Remember that whatever you say about others will come back to you like a boomerang.

3. Learn to say no. You do not need to go to every event or party you are invited to. This is the season not to burn the candle at both ends. That way, you will be present and rested for the events that matter most to you.

30 Day Road to Success

There is a little over 30 days left in the year. Instead of waiting for the New Year to begin those goals, why not start this month? Try this 30-day road to success.

Is there something in your life that you wish you could change? One year from now, what do you want your life to look like? Using goal setting, commitment and controlling your thoughts, you can start achieving what you want. I challenge you to try this experiment for the next 30 days. See what happens, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

1. Write on an index card what you want more than anything else to create the life you desire. Spend time in silence to give this some thought. It could be more money, a partner, a new job, a new home, or a family. While in silence, listen to your heart’s desires. Once you decided what you want, create a single goal that is clearly stated. Write this on the card.
2. Do not share this goal with anyone. Keep it to yourself.
3. Read it out loud every morning and before going to bed at night. Say it with faith. Envision yourself as if you already achieved the goal. Believe in the goal and yourself.
4. Stop any negative thoughts or fears immediately. When a fearful or negative thought about achieving your goal enters your mind, replace it with a positive affirmation or a mental picture of you achieving your goal. Some positive affirmations may be: I release all fears and doubts. I believe in myself. I can and will achieve my goal.
5. Be grateful for all the abundance you already have.
6. Release the “how” of how to achieve it. The answers will come in time from a force much greater than you.
7. Do this for 30 days.

This 30-day Road to Success is a simple experiment. It does not cost you anything and is easy to fit into a busy schedule. However, it is not easy to release fears and negative thinking. Be vigilant and do not give up! Stay inspired and continue to passionately believe in yourself.

Why Positive Affirmations Work

Our minds are constantly filled with chatter. Most of the time we are not even aware of our thoughts. They go on and on in an endless stream. Usually, our thoughts are not positive and uplifting. They dwell in the future or the past. When I speak of the mind and thoughts, I am referring to the conscious mind, our ego. Or should I say ego with a capital E. Why positive affirmations work? They help us control our thoughts instead of allowing our thoughts to control us.

Have you ever listened to a song on the radio while driving and hours later you are still singing the words in your head? It may not even be a song you particularly like. But, that is how our conscious minds work. If we are not aware of our thoughts, anything can be going on.

The reason we want to be aware of our thoughts is that they are being programmed into our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind has no ego and is very obedient. It will bring about on the physical plane what we tell it. That is great news if we are careful what we tell it.

That is why positive affirmations work and are important. Instead of thinking about failure, fear, or lack, positive affirmations help us tell the subconscious mind what we want in our life. You might think this is too good to be true. It isn’t. This is a Universal Law that is simple but, difficult to be consistent with daily.

What are Affirmations?
Affirmations are positive statements that are written in the present tense. Below are some examples.
All is well in my world.
I am healthy.
I am creating my happiness.
I am lovable.
I believe in myself.

By becoming aware of our thoughts and taking control of them, we can and will bring about positive change in our lives.

How Does Manifesting Work?

Manifesting is a sort of New Age term for prayer. Manifesting may use different means and different forms of prayers, but, they are both intended to help us become aware of our oneness with Source, God. This connection is available to each and every one of us equally. We can all tap into this power and use it.

When we connect with God by prayer or other means, we set in motion his Presence within us. It is an awakening. We are connecting with Unlimited Intelligence, Unlimited Power, and Unlimited Grace. We were born with this connection, but, through life’s trails and experience, we lose sight of it.

Manifesting techniques refresh this connection with God with our Small Inner Voice, and this is where possibilities arise. This connection with Source is how manifesting works. This is our natural state; we just get sidetracked and believe it is too good to be true. When we begin again to accept good, accept this power and this connection; manifesting occurs.

God does not come in. God never went out.

We need to reconnect with God. We can use prayer, meditation, affirmations, or spending time in silence. The techniques or approach does not matter. What matters is the connection with inner life, the Divine Spirit. This is not something we can physically see or touch. It is a Law of Creation and will respond to us.

When we align our subconscious mind with thought, it will manifest into form through Spirit. It is a state of mind. It is living in unity with Source.

Manifesting works because is a return to our natural state of Oneness. It is this connection to God that that is powerful and is not limited by the physical world. Ask and you shall receive.

The Present Precious Moment

This past week, I visited a friend at Hospice. Visiting someone at Hospice is never easy. There is a silent acceptance of the inevitable. However, every time I go to see someone at Hospice, it is moving, and I leave feeling more compassionate. As hard as the visit is, I leave feeling I received a gift; a reminder of the present precious moment. All renewal comes in the present moment, the Now.

I am aware of my limitations and know there is nothing I can do about my friend that is suffering. But, I can be authentic, compassionate, and present when we are together. And maybe this will help her find strength. The visit made me wonder if she has any regrets about her life? Another jewel from the visit was thinking about my own life and committing to letting go of any regrets and do something every day that brings me joy.

It is easy to get wrapped up in our routines: our daily, weekly, and yearly routines. Our egos love routines. It keeps us safe and predictable. But, what if you allowed yourself to break routines? Get out of your comfort zone. Release old mental programs and do something every day that brings you joy instead of doing the “shoulds.”

Break free and enjoy each precious moment. When was the last time you played or laughed? Start today to show up for your life by paying attention. Start to live in a sustained state of awareness with gratitude for the many gifts you have. Shift your attention away from routines. Start by committing each day to do something that brings you joy. The key is YOU, not your child, your husband, your co-worker, just you. It could be as small as reading a novel, a walk in nature, or planting a garden. Or maybe you begin to meditate daily and go deeper to discover what brings you joy.

Give yourself a gift. Be tender with yourself. Commit to renew your life. All renewal comes in the present precious moment.
