Happy Thanksgiving

By: Gloria Marie

Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving to me represents the beginning of the holiday season. A time to be grateful, times spent with family and friends, and, from my Italian heritage, time for lots of good food. Our family always gathers together on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful day to take out your journal and spend some reflecting on what you are grateful for today. Think back over the past year and write down some obvious things to be grateful for, then dig deeper to discover what may not be as apparent.

One of our traditions is reading the prayer below. It was written by Chief Yellow Lark. He was a nineteenth-century medicine man of the Lakota Sioux.

Let Me Walk in Beauty
O Great Spirit,
whose voice I hear in the winds
and whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me.
I am small and weak.
I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty
and let my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears grow sharp to hear you voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the things
you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden
in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength not to be greater than my brother or sister
but to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me always ready
to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes
So when life fades as the fading sunset
my spirit may come to you without shame.

I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving that is filled with love and gratitude.

Must-Read for Job Seekers

By: Gloria Marie

what color is your parachute 2018, gloria pierson

This book is a must-read for job seekers or anyone considering changing careers or starting a business. “What Color is Your Parachute? 2018” not only gives practical advice for getting a job but, also has the reader do self-reflection. The chapters on personal growth allow the job seeker to examine themselves and give the process a holistic approach. You may discover that you want to find a lifetime career instead of a job. Richard Bolles encourages you to get out of your comfort zone, and when you do, the job market may open for you in ways you never considered or thought possible.

The 2018 updated version of the best seller gives recent statistics about how the job market has changed and how applying for jobs has changed. For example, there is a section on “The Eleven Best and Worst Traditional Approaches to Looking for a Job.” The worst is looking for employers’ job-postings on the Internet. The method works on an average of 4% of the time. Whereas, asking for job-leads from family members, friends and people you know in the community works 33% of the time.

“What Color is Your Parachute?” is over 350 packed filled pages of advice. I suggest you go to the Table of Contents and pick the chapter that is appropriate for your job search or for starting your own business. The book is easy to read with bullet points, charts, and worksheets that are simple to follow.

As a life coach, I will highly recommend this book to my clients. The exercises alone are valuable to determine your work style and what type of job will help you lead a fulfilling life.

All objects carry energy. By clearing the clutter in your home, you are also changing the possibilities in your own life. Remove obstacles and create energy that flows. Do you own your clutter or does it own you?

Try these 5 tips to declutter your home and you will begin to see changes in your life.

When you are finished, open up your windows to let all that fresh energy flow.

Declutter Your Life

By: Gloria Marie

Clutter is stuck, stagnant energy. By changing your home, you are changing the energy in your home and allowing more possibilities to enter your life. The Universe fills voids, by, creating the physical space in your home, you are also creating the mental, emotional and spiritual space for your dreams and desires to manifest. Try these steps to declutter your life.

One wonderful question to ask yourself; Do you own your clutter or do you clutter own you? Take a stroll through your home and contemplate that question. Why do we keep things that we do not like, use or need? Are you keeping something “just in case?” This is a fear based response. It is a lack of trust in the future.

Inherited clutter could be a problem. This is like the “just in case” syndrome. Inherited clutter is also guilt-ridden. How could you get rid of that vase that your Mother loved? She would be upset. Sound familiar? It could also be a gift from someone, and you feel guilty getting rid of it.

This past weekend, I decided to declutter. When I moved into this home four years ago, I bought stuff that I did not need or like, but, it was expensive stuff, so I kept it. This past Sunday, I went and bought large moving boxes and got started. There was no stopping me, and when I was finished, it felt so great. The energy in my home felt lighter, and I felt so proud that I was able to release many things from my past.

I went through the box of my deceased mother’s knick-knacks. Most of these have been in a box in my closet for the past four years. My Mother loved these knick-knacks, but, I did not and realized I was keeping them out of guilt. My Mother is in spirit, and she will always be in my heart. I know someone will love to have them and appreciate them, so, they got donated.

If you are going through a divorce or a relationship breakup, it is important to clear the energy of your ex. It is a time to clear and emotional bring in new energy.

When clearing, look at your home and surroundings in a new way. For many years, I always kept large baskets above my kitchen cabinets. Why? Because that is what I did in the past. Well, this weekend all the baskets were put in bags for donations, and the clean look in my kitchen makes me smile. That expensive brass lamp that I never liked also went. I know someone will enjoy my discarded things and I feel like a rebirth.

My Five Steps to Declutter Your Life:

1. Put in on your calendar and get the supplies you need: boxes, tape, large trash bags.
2. Decided on the time of day you will do this. Are you a morning person or do you do better at night?
3. Play upbeat music. Get your game on!!
4. When going through the clutter ask yourself two questions. Does this object bring me joy? Why am I keeping it? If you are not sure about some objects, set one box as a “maybe.” Put a date on it and revisit after six months.
5. Reward yourself. When you are finished, pat yourself on the back. Take a stroll around your home and feel the difference in the energy. Open the windows to allow fresh air to come in.
Transform your life. Set the day to declutter.

Emile Coue Method for Affirmations

By: Gloria Marie

gloria pierson, single happy and strong, emile coue. emile coue affirmatons

“When you believe yourself to be master of your thoughts, you become so.”

 -Emile Coue´

Affirmations are statements that help us practice positive thinking. Your mind cannot have two thoughts at the same time. You may have thoughts that follow one another, but there is only one thought at a time. Affirmations help us replace any negative or undesirable thoughts with a thought that will empower us. Affirmations can help us become strong, happy and whole. There are all types of affirmations: for love, prosperity, good health, happiness, self-love, the list can go on and on. The Emile Couse method for affirmations was revolutionary for its time.

An interesting point about affirmations is that they have been used for a long time. In 1922, Emile Coue´ published a book titled, “Self Mastery through Conscious Autosuggestion.” He was a French psychologist who developed a method for attaining health, success, and happiness through the use of autosuggestion. He did 20 years of scientific research and experiments with thousands of people to develop his method.

This is the Emile Coue´ method:
1. Sit in a relaxed position with eyes closed.
2. Repeat in a monotonous tone, the magic words:
“EVERY DAY, IN EVERY WAY, I AM GETTING BETTER AND BETTER”
3. Repeat these magic words 20 times in the morning and 20 times in the evening.
4. Do not think about your illness or your troubles while repeating these words.
5. Your desire must have absolute faith and confidence.

That is it! This is simple to do. You do not need any special props or need to be in any particular place. What you do need is confidence in yourself and to believe firmly that all will be well.

Try it for a month. See if there are some positive changes in your life.

Terrific Emotional Read

By: Gloria Marie

the tea planters wife, dinah jefferies

A beautifully written novel that you will have trouble putting down. “The Tea Planter’s Wife” by Dinah Jefferies is rich with descriptions of Ceylon in the 1920’s, both historical and visual. I was mesmerized by the vivid images of the landscape, homes, and clothes of the era. The novel is filled with love, suspense, heartbreak, and mystery.

Gwendolyn Hooper, just nineteen years old marries Laurence, the owner of a tea plantation in Ceylon. She leaves her home in England and begins her new married life in Ceylon. Life in Ceylon is not as she has hoped. The plantation workers are resentful, and her sister-in-law is trouble. Gwendolyn has many unanswered questions about Laurence’s first wife and her mysterious death.

Gwendolyn becomes pregnant, and with the birth, she makes a decision that will haunt her the rest of her life. She also finds the racism in Ceylon hard to understand and want to try to change the conditions for the plantation workers and their families.

There are many family secrets that are interwoven throughout the book and finally, in the ending are exposed. This is a page turning novel that will not disappoint you. The only disappointment will be when you are finished reading it; you will want for more.

Mesmerizing Novel for Summer Reading List

By: Gloria Marie

“The Little French Bistro” is a mesmerizing novel that needs to be added to your summer reading list. The beautiful descriptions of the French Rivera, the landscape, and the food will entice you to plan a trip or at the very lease enjoy a glass of wine with a baguette and dream of the area. Nina George’s new novel is filled with romance, passion and second chances.

Marianne is 60 years old and stuck in a loveless marriage. She tries to kill herself, unsuccessfully and instead finds her way to the sea and a new life. She begins working at the Ar Mor restaurant and meets the various characters in the town. There is Yann, the handsome painter, Genevieve, the restaurant owner, Jean-Remy, the chef at Ar Mor and many others.

Marianne for the first time in her life begins living with passion. She does a complete makeover of her wardrobe, her hair, and her makeup. She finds new love and no longer wants to end her life because it is now rich with relationships and interests.

However, her past does catch up with her, and that is when Marianne must make a choice whether to go back to her old life or continue with courage on her new path.

This is one of my favorite passages from “The Little French Bistro”:

“I don’t know why we women believe that sacrificing our desires makes us more attractive to men. What on earth are we thinking? That someone who goes without her wishes deserves to be loved more than she who follows her dreams?”

Pick up, “The Little French Bistro” and travel virtually to the French Rivera.

Try These Fun Creative Projects

By: Gloria Marie

make it yours, yellow owl workshop, christine schmidt

If you are looking for a book to give inspiration for creative projects, “Make It Yours,” is the book you need. There are many easy to follow projects that will help you bring personal touches throughout your home. “Make It Yours” by Christine Schmidt, will teach you how to print, stamp, stencil, and dye.

Each project is accompanied by a color photograph of the finished project. Also, for each project, there is, the time involved, the level of difficulty, “what you will learn,” a materials list and step by step instructions. Even someone with no previous experience can complete the projects.

There are numerous projects which include: abstract painted scarf, recipe cards, monogram leather clutch, fondant decorations, roll stamp table linens, custom monogram, stamped Moorish tiles and dry iron-on applique. Everyone with any level of experience will find a project to suit them.

There is a complete section with stencils and templates to trace. One of my favorite sections is Appendix A. I am a novice when it comes to these projects, but, Appendix A takes care of that! It goes into detail about the supplies by techniques. For example, one project I like called for an inking plate. I imagined I would go to the local craft store and pick one up. The author suggests using a clean baking sheet that you can buy at a thrift store! This section discusses what fabrics to use and the factors to consider when choosing the fabric.

You will want to stop what you are doing, get some materials and have some fun doing these diverse creative projects.
