Happy August!

August is starting with a shift in energy. July 31, Mercury went direct. Any problems with communication, contracts, and technology will ease over the next week. In August there are three Super Full Moons. The first one is on August 1. New beginnings will increase now. This month is a perfect time to set those intentions, use affirmations, and act. Jupiter, the planet of good luck, goes direct on August 11. This will help magnify the energy.

Fiction Book – This novel is one of my 10 all-time favorites. I could not put it down and did not want it to end.

Acceptance of the Present Moment

Acceptance of the present moment is a state of consciousness. Acceptance is easy if everything is going exactly as you like it and want it. Your ego is so happy when everything is going great. But, life is not always exactly as we want it. You may have problems in a relationship. You may be in a job that you dislike. You may have a health challenge, or you may be struggling to pay your monthly bills.

By accepting the present moment, you are in a state of peace, and that peaceful energy flows through you. The situation you are in may not be perfect, but, do not fight against the moment. By acceptance, I do not mean that you want and will prepare for something better to manifest. However, resistance, anger or negativity will stop the energy to flow and will hinder your manifestation of something better.

By accepting the present moment, you are in a state of grace and that peaceful energy flows through you.

If you plant a seed in the ground for a flower to grow, you patiently wait until it sprouts out of the earth. You do not pull the seeds out if the flower fails to sprout in a day or two. You patiently wait with confidence for the flower to bloom. You have faith in those seeds you planted.

It is the same with happiness even if the present moment is not perfect. Happiness is an interior quality within Divine Order. It is knowing and trusting that in the long run the Divine will win and good will come. Just like the seeds, you planted will produce a flower.

Trust that in the long run the Divine will win and good will come.

Surrender to the present moment no matter how much you dislike it. Let the peaceful energy flow through you. Take responsibility for your life and your actions. Take steps to change what you dislike about your life and have faith that you can change it. Every moment is temporary. Be active, not passive in every precious moment. Give every moment your full and present attention. Only you control your consciousness and your thoughts.

Sometimes it is hard. Earlier this year, I had big plans to go on vacation out west. I loved the west and was looking forward to the trip. But, the week before my trip, I fell in my bedroom, broke several bones in my foot and needed surgery. So much for the trip. This is not what I wanted or planned. But, rather than become negative and resist the moment, I accepted it. I wanted peaceful energy to flow through me and help with my healing. I believed in Divine order and knew, in the long run, more good, and happiness would come into my life.

Acting in a state of peace will raise your consciousness and your energy. With a heightened awareness, you are in a mental state to receive gifts. Trust the integrity of the Universe.
Flow with the river of life, not against the current.

There is an oil combination for weight loss, which I personally cannot wait to try. My essential oils have been ordered and are on the way. This recipe, like most others, is based on research and simple to apply.

Delicious Vegan Recipes

Fresh, vibrant and delicious vegan recipes. “Chloe Flavor” is a must-have cookbook, even if you are not vegan. This cookbook will prove to you that plant-based recipes do not have to be boring. The recipes combine healthy ingredients, unusual combinations and are simple to prepare.

The introduction, “The Vegan Kitchen,” is a wealth of knowledge about ingredients and tips for success in cooking. For example, author Chole Coscarelli explains a technique using nuts as a base for sauces, soups, and deserts, so, they remain dairy free. The method involves soaking the nuts in boiling water for ten minutes before blending them. It worked like a charm.

The chapters range from Breakfast and Brunch, Soups and Salads, Sandwiches, Pasta, Plated Dishes, Smoothies and of course, Deserts! The recipes are easy to follow and do not require hard to find ingredients. Beautiful photographs accompany most of the recipes.

Last night, I invited my family for dinner and made the Brussels Sprouts Tacos and Cauliflower Al Pastor Tacos. At first, my family seemed skeptical about the combinations. After we finished eating, we all agreed, that it was one of the best dinners we have eaten. The freshness of the ingredients and the combination of the tastes were incredible and besides that good for our bodies.

The Brussel Sprout Tacos were made with shredded Brussel sprouts that were charred and served with corn seasoned with lime juice and jalapeno and a chimichurri sauce. The Cauliflower al Pastor Tacos were made with spicy roasted cauliflower and pineapple with a cashew queso sauce. On the side, as suggested, I served guacamole, lime wedges, fresh cilantro and pickled red onions.

Cannot wait to try many more of the recipes. Whether you are vegan or want to incorporate more plant-based recipes into your diet, this cookbook will provide you the path. The recipes are delicious and will add a flavorful variety to your weekly meals.

How to Direct Your Thoughts

The high school shooting in Parkland was heartbreaking for many people. The high school is located about five miles from my home. Though all the horrible shootings make me sad, this one, that was in my backyard traumatized me the most. The streets and restaurants in Parkland are eerily empty. The gym I go to in Parkland likewise has been empty all week. As I am on the treadmill, watching the television, it is surreal to see the candlelight vigil that was held just a few blocks away. While at the gym, I wondered how many of the members were personally affected by this tragedy. How many parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, or neighbors are in mourning? Their lives never to be the same.

This week, it was hard for me to focus and hard to stay positive. I felt my energy low and negative. It was a struggle this week to remain in any routine. Of course, I prayed, light candles and meditated and that is what provided relief. From all my work, I know that by raising my energy and vibration, it will help others. I wish I could bring back all seventeen that died or wish I could take the pain away from the families, but, I cannot. What I can do is keep my thread to God alive.

This video was recorded before the shooting, but, the tool described will help you deal with tragedy. It will help you stay focused in the present moment. The goal is to direct your thoughts instead of just “thinking.” When our thoughts wonder they usually go to past regrets or worries about the future. Let’s all try to stay present and send healing love, prayers and light to the Parkland community.

When we are mindful in the present moment, we can think more clearly, and maybe we can decide, what can we do to prevent further tragedies?

Fantastic Photography Book

“Zen Camera” is a fantastic photography book for the novice and the experienced photographer. The author, David Ulrich, utilizes principles of Zen practice and incorporates them into the photography lessons. This book will not only teach you creative ways to take photographs but, will also help you develop a mindfulness practice to allow you to stay in the present moment and build your creative instincts.

Zen Camera has six lessons: Observation, Awareness, Identity, Practice, Mastery, and Presence. From these chapter titles, you can tell that this is not your ordinary, dull, technical guidebook. This fresh approach will appeal to many people because it is not overly technical. You will learn to develop your style. Each lesson is followed by several exercises to “Try,” and they will reinforce the concepts explained in the lessons.

The author does not recommend an expensive camera or equipment to begin; a cell phone camera is enough. He does suggest two practices to use throughout the book: A Daily Record and Daily Observation. The Daily Record will become your journal throughout the book. It will be the record of your evolving style. David Ulrich recommends taking 100 to 200 photographs a week.

Last year, I was given a beautiful camera as a gift. I know how to turn it on and off, change the battery and use autofocus. “Zen Camera” has inspired me to learn more and develop my skills and style. I have put into my weekly schedule, a time to observe and take photographs. Zen practice has always fascinated me and to combine that with the element of photography is magical.

If you are a seasoned photographer, this book is also for you. My son is an accomplished photographer and filmmaker, and he was fascinated with the exercises the book recommended to do.

If you are looking for a creative outlet, want to practice mindfulness, or even reduce stress, this is the book for you. It can transform your life.

The Lost Art of Good Conversation

With the dawn of modern technology, we are losing verbal communication with each other. “The Lost Art of Good Conversation” supplies simple, practical ways to reconnect with each other mindfully. Sakyong Mipham suggests that advanced technologies intensify the use of words and images through the speed of communication. Because of this pace, we think less before we speak and therefore our spoken words are more harmful.

This book has us take a step back toward simpler times and gives suggestions to engage with others in a kind and respectful way. It brings us back to the basics of listening and connecting with our family, our colleagues, and strangers. Each chapter discusses a different situation and at the end of the section is a Reflection to reinforce the lesson.

The author uses the principles of the Shambhala tradition of meditation, mindfulness, and compassion. This book gives many ideas of how to communicate with others, though starters for conversations and how to talk in stressful situations.

I especially enjoyed the chapter on “Avoid Complaint.” It gave an excellent method to reduce complaining to others. The technique was to make a list of everything that is seemingly wrong in your life. From the list choose one of your routine complaints. The refrain from indulging it in a set period of time. Let’s face it; no one wants to hear us complain.
Everyone can learn and pick up practical tips from this book and connect with others in a kind, compassionate way.
